Joan Helen (Fidler) Durbin, 83 of Ashland passed away with her family by
her side October 15, 2016 at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha. She was
born April 13, 1933 to James H. and Olive R. (Van Hook) Fidler in rural
South Bend, NE.
She attended District #57 grade school in South Bend, NE and graduated
from Omaha Technical High School in 1948. Joan was united in marriage on
January 16, 1949 to Earl M. Durbin for 60 years. Joan waitressed as a
teenager and also worked at the Mead Ordnance Plant then the Russell
Stover Candy Company in Lincoln prior to her 32 years of employment at
Western Electric/AT&T Technology where she retired in 1990. She was also
a member of the Telephone Pioneers.
She is survived by her daughters, Jolynn K. Durbin (Mark Reber), Sheryle
R. (Steve) Olsen; grandchildren, Kelly S. Durbin, Denise N. Durbin,
Dustin J. Durbin, Cody J. Olsen; great-grandchild, Savanna Durbin;
brother, Bill Fidler; sister-in-law, Emma Mae Fidler Hill and many
nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl. M. Durbin, sons, Steven
E. Durbin, Daniel L. Durbin; half-brother, Jesse Fidler; half-sister,
Iva Copsey; brothers, James and Jack Fidler; sisters, Stella Haswell,
Marjorie Donovan and Mary Alice Dean.
Services: Graveside services, Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 1:00P.M.,
Ashland Cemetery, Ashland, Nebraska.
Interment: Ashland Cemetery, Ashland, Nebraska.
Memorials: To the family for future designation.
Joan retire in 1990.
