James Bernard “Jim” Wilson was born on August 6, 1948, in St. Charles, Missouri, to Woodrow and Bernice (Krull) Wilson. He grew up in St. Louis, Missouri with his older brother and two younger sisters. Jim graduated from Normandy High School in 1966. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving from 1968 until 1972. Jim was stationed in at Kunsan Air Base in South Korea in 1970 and 1971.

In 1970, while stationed in Omaha, Nebraska, Jim met and married Ellen Harper of Battle Creek, Nebraska. They were blessed with three children: daughter, Kathy, and two sons, Jamie and Jay. A kid at heart, Jim was very involved in his children’s activities, including soccer, church youth group, and paper routes. He helped coach soccer for the YMCA and later for the Olympia soccer club for several years. Jim also enjoyed his time working for Sears at Crossroads Mall in Omaha from 1975 to 1992, where he built many friendships and an amusing H-R file.

In 2001, Jim was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. He and his wife managed the challenges of the disease at home until 2009 when Jim moved to the Norfolk Veteran’s Home in Norfolk, Nebraska. Here, he was loved by a wonderful and patient staff. He passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2012, with his wife and daughter at his side, at the age of 63.

Jim is survived by his wife, Ellen; daughter Kathy; sons, Jamie and daughter-in-law Shanna, and Jay; granddaughters, Cayden and Leighton of Omaha; grandson, Holden James of Omaha; brother Teddy; sisters Roberta and Shirley; numerous nieces and nephews; and many wonderful and beloved friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Bernice Wilson.

Jim was a consummate jokester. Stories and thoughts are very much appreciated and may be sent to the family at: wilsonmustache48@gmail.com.
