Donald M. Tatreau left us peacefully surrounded by his family on
Wednesday 6/26/2019 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC at the age
of 96. Don will be interred with military honors later at Forest Lawn
Memorial Park in Omaha, Nebraska.
He joined the Marine Bombing Squadron (VMB 433) on 11/23/1942 and was
eventually assigned as part of the Bismarck Archipelago operation to
consolidate the Northern Solomon Islands in the Philippine campaign
during WWII. He flew 55 missions as a turret gunner in a PBJ (B-25H)
Mitchell, received an air medal and two gold stars and was honorably
discharged on 11/15/1945 as an E7 gunnery sergeant. He participated in
the 500th Blue Ridge Honor Flight to Washington DC 9/24/2016 where he
was recognized for his service in WWII.
Don started his working career at Brandeis taand Sons (large retail store)
as a sales associate while attending high school at Omaha Tech. After
high school, Don worked as a clerk at the Omaha National Bank (largest
bank in Nebraska at the time). After WWII, he started at Orchard &
Wilhelm (large home furnishing store) as the supervisor of wholesale
sales. Don met his wife, D. Maxine Teninty while both were employed at
Orchard & Wilhelm Company. In 1957, Don switched employers and began
working for Western Electric; becoming Lucent Technologies, as a first
line supervisor of the Financial-Credit Organization. Maxine started
working there in 1969. In 1986 they both retired and enjoyed traveling
around in their RV. Don completed his genealogy research back to the
first Tatreau (Tetreau) who came to New France (Canada) in 1662, born in
1634 in France.
Don and Maxine were married 8/18/1949, in Omaha by the late Reverend
Norman Temme who also retired in Hendersonville, NC with his wife,
Marion. Maxine and Don moved to Middleton Place, Hendersonville, in
October 1996. They have since relocated into the Lake Pointe Landing
Retirement Village in Hendersonville on 9/24/2012. Maxine and Donald
were charter members of King of Kings Lutheran Church in Omaha and
attended services there for 35 years before joining Mt. Pisgah Lutheran
Church in Hendersonville.
Donald was preceded in death by: his parents Frank Edward and Minnie
Tatreau, brother Frank Lloyd Tatreau, sister Lois George, sister-in-law
Pearl, and brothers-in-law Samuel George and Wilbur Borgeson. Donald is
survived by his wife, Maxine Tatreau of Hendersonville, sister Betty
Borgeson of Long Grove, IL and three sons: Douglas Tatreau (Connie) of
Pueblo, CO, sons, Michael Tatreau of Westminster, CO and Christopher
Tatreau (Tabitha), of Kiowa, CO. Dean Tatreau (Margaret) of Judsonia,
AR, sons Andrew Tatreau of Ocean Springs, MS, and Travis Feurt (Ariel)
of Searcy, AR, and daughter, Amber Feurt of Judsonia, AR. Kevin Tatreau
(Joan) of St. Petersburg, FL, daughter Lindsay Lebowitz (David) of
Orlando, FL. There are 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and
nephews.
