David Stastny, age 69 of Omaha, NE, died unexpectedly on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, IA.

David Lee Stastny was born April 18, 1947 in Wilbur, Nebraska, the son of Lumir and Blanche (Havlat) Stastny. Dave was raised in a military family and lived in various places in the U.S. and overseas. He graduated in 1966 from South High School in Omaha, NE and entered the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge he returned to Omaha area and began working at Western Electric.

Dave married Cindy Backer on August 14, 1971 in LeMars, IA. Two daughters were born to this union, Clara and Andrea. He continued his education at Metro Community College, while continuing to work, where he studied Industrial Maintenance.

Dave married Kathy Landrie on September 21, 2000 in Omaha, NE. A step daughter joined their family, Jennifer. Dave retired in 2001 from Avaya (formerly Western Electric) in 2001, after 34 years of service.

He was a member of Henry Bossard American Legion Post 32 in Papillion, NE and John J. Mercer Lodge #29 in Omaha, NE. He enjoyed fishing, especially Walleye, and woodworking in his garage. He also played competitive men’s softball and adult flag football in his younger years. During his retirement years he had a Thursday morning breakfast group with his retired co-workers. His family will remember Dave as a wise, caring man with a good work ethic. He also will be remembered as a loving and supportive husband and father.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Stastny of Omaha, NE; two daughter, Clara (husband Rick) Otto of Sioux City, IA and Andrea (husband Greg) Kleider of Sioux City, IA; a step-daughter, Jennifer Pry of Omaha, NE; seven grandchildren, Michael and Mitchell Otto, Abby, Ashley and Alex Kleider, and Sierra and Baylee Wortman; one great-grandchild, Izaiah Wortman; two brothers, Dennis (wife Betty) Stastny of Omaha, NE and Kelvin (wife Michelle) Stastny of Denton, TX; a sister-in-law, Evon (husband Bob) Delgado of Council Bluffs, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lumir and Blanche Stastny.

Visitation: Thursday, 9:30 A.M. until the hour of service at the church.

Services: 11:00 A.M., October 27th at First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock.

Interment: Zion Presbyterian Cemetery, rural George, IA.


Dave worked in plant trades, he retired, August 31, 2001.
