Leroy Frederick Stamp

Stamp, Leroy Frederick
4 Feb 1927 - 1 Jul 2017

Leroy F. Stamp was preceded in death by parents Harry & Rose, and wife LaVonne Stamp. He is survived by children; Greg & Diane Stamp of Liberty Township, OH, Donn & Audrey Stamp of Liberty Township, OH, Sharon & Dave McArdle of Omaha, Juliann & Steve Miller of Des Moines, IA, Cheryl & Lynn Stohs, of Marysville, KS, John & Linda Heffernan of Omaha, Jane & John Weber of Las Vegas, NV, Mark & Sheri Heffernan of Missouri Valley, IA, 16 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, sister Lois Jean Harris of Blair, NE.

LeRoy Frederick Stamp was born in Valley, Nebraska on February 4, 1927 to Harry and Rosa (Bettenhausen) Stamp. He and his sister Lois Jean grew up on the family farm near Yutan, Nebraska.

LeRoy graduated from Valley High School in 1945. After graduation, he farmed with his father and worked in Fremont at Gambles, filling orders. In 1945, he went into the Army and after he was discharged, he resumed farming. LeRoy built a lovely family home near Leshara on 40 acres he inherited from his aunt. In 1957, he began working at Western Electric and ended his 31 year career there in 1988. He also continued farming until 1971.

There was nothing LeRoy could not fix, build, or grow. From working on cars with his boys to finishing basements, LeRoy was always meticulous and creative with any project he started. In later years, he presented many gifts of love fashioned from wood to his family and friends.

Gardening was also a source of satisfaction for him. His lawn and flowers were beautiful. But perhaps he is best remembered by friends and neighbors for his generous sharing of garden produce.

Traveling was a lifelong interest. His many travels were captured through his photography and home movies. His children remember the many adventures while camping and fishing in Wyoming. In later years, he traveled to many places with his camper to enjoy warm weather in the winter.

LeRoy never knew a stranger. His personality and interest in others always were his strong points. Especially in later years, LeRoy always kept a positive outlook toward change. His quote reflects this optimism, “It does no good to complain. No one wants to hear that, and it doesn’t help the complainer, either.”

As we gather at this difficult time, LeRoy would want us to focus on the good memories, the happy times, and the love he brought to others.
