Mary Ann D. (Miller) Simons was born October 28, 1925 on the family farm
between Ashland and Yutan to Frederick and Lena (Heldt) Miller. Mary Ann
grew up in the Ashland and Yutan area, where she attended District 7
School for grades 1-8, and graduated from Yutan High School in 1942. As
a young girl, Mary Ann was active in sports, and was a talented
musician; singing and playing both organ and accordion.
Mary Ann married Robert L. Simons on September 28, 1948 at St. John’s
Lutheran Church in Yutan, Nebraska, and to this union, four children
were born; Robert L. Jr., twins John and Jim, and Barbara. The family
made their home in Yutan.
Mary Ann worked at Western Electric for over 20 years on the assembly
line, retiring in 1976. She later worked for Catherine’s Dress Shop in
West Omaha. Mary Ann was an active member of the Yutan Legion Auxiliary,
and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yutan. She loved playing
her organ and accordion, going bowling, and playing BINGO. She enjoyed
polka or Nashville music, had a sweet tooth, and took time to smell the
roses, her favorite flower. She was an avid card player, and was always
ready for a game with any family or friend that challenged her. She
especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s
sporting and musical events. Mary Ann will be remembered for her love of
life, and her love of her friends and family, especially her
grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary Ann died on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at the Saunders County Medical
Center in Wahoo, Nebraska at the age of 89 years, 6 months, and 9 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Robert L. Simons,
Sr. Mary Ann is survived by her sons; Robert L. Jr., John W. (Shirley),
and James F. (Vicki), daughter Barbara (Don) Rican, grandchildren;
Christopher, Jason, Joe, Brenda, Jeff, Mike, Luke, Sara, Lance, and
Laura; great grandchildren; Ben, Jaxon, Kobey, Cole, Ava, Reese, Cooper,
Dylan, Maisy, Addison, Kolton, Easton, and Vivienne; brothers; Jim (Marlyn)
Miller and Joe (Erma Rae) Miller.
Visitation: With the family Sunday from 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home in
Elkhorn.
Services: Monday, 11 A.M. at the funeral home in Elkhorn.
Interment: Private, Hollst Lawn Cemetery, Yutan.
Memorials: To the Saunders County Medical Therapy Center.
Mary Ann worked in assemble. She retired in 1976.
