Stanley Kenneth Scebold

Scebold, Stanley Kenneth
3 Mar 1935 - 4 Mar 2014

Stanley Kenneth Scebold was born on March 3, 1935 in Loveland, Iowa to Donald Ross and Mattie Marie (Christensen) Scebold, the youngest of four sons. He was baptized on April 21, 1935 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Missouri Valley, Iowa, and was later confirmed there. Stan grew up in a country school setting where his mother was his teacher. He graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1953.

He had a number of different jobs including house construction and grain bin inspection before joining the Army in July 1956 where he served for two years in the Honor Guard participating in many funerals and standing guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. After the service he was employed at Western Electric where he met Carol. They were married on July 9, 1960 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Gresham, Nebraska, and to this union three children were born: Linda, Steve, and Dave. Stan and Carol raised their family in Elkhorn, Nebraska. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and very special grandpa that loved to spend time with his family.

Stan could fix almost anything and was a talented woodworker. His many projects can be seen not only in his home, but also in those of his children, friends, neighbors, and his church, Zion Lutheran. Stan was always willing to lend a helping hand and touched many people's lives through his quiet service. He also enjoyed playing cards, fishing, boating, traveling, and playing an occasional prank or two.

In July of 1994, with 36 years of service, Stan retired from Western Electric, later known as AT&T and Lucent. Stan was involved in the Telephone Pioneers doing volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity, Child Saving Institute, Easter Seal Camp, and children's vision screening at schools. Stan showed his faith in his Savior by how he lived to serve.

Stan passed away on March 4, 2014 at the age of 79 years and a day. He was preceded in death by parents and one brother, Richard. He is survived by his wife, Carol of Elkhorn, Nebraska; daughter Linda and son-in-law David Saville of Rockwall, Texas, two sons Steve and daughter-in-law Jody of Omaha, Nebraska, and Dave and daughter-in-law JamieSue of Omaha, Nebraska, four grandchildren Alisha, Shayla, Drew and Lily; two brothers Bob (Donna) Scebold of Medford, Oregon and Harold (Joan) Scebold of Johnston, Iowa; and an aunt Maxine Christensen of Scottsbluff, Nebraska and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Stan retired July, 1994. He is listed, in a 1976 Omaha Works Telephone Directory as a Section Chief in the No.4 and No.5 Relay Rack, Register, Marker, Link, Concentrator Identifier, 520 & 758 PBX & Misc. Surface Wiring & Artos Wire Cutting Manufacturing Department with Pete Prest, Paul Elver, Larry Dolleck & Wally Scott. Charlotte Pfeffer was the departmental secretary.
