Ghazi Y. 'Sam' Sawaged

Sawaged, Ghazi Y. 'Sam'
27 Mar 1935 – 7 Sep 2016

Sam was born in El-Husn, Jordan. He is survived by wife, Amal Sawaged; children: Suhair Sawaged, Tanya Tyrcha (John), Tamie Sawaged, Jacquelyn Scebold (Daniel), Heather Akers (Michael), Lisa Sawaged, and Joseph Sawaged (Maria); nine grandchildren; brother, Dr. Ghassan Sawaged; three sisters.

From a young age, Dad possessed a tremendous drive to succeed, and this drive shaped the course of his life. Loving all things American, especially American classic movies, he became an English teacher in his small hometown in Jordan. His determination to be successful and prosperous compelled him to leave Jordan to pursue his dreams in the United States.

Dad’s priority in America was to make enough money to support his parents back home and to send his beloved brother to medical school. In 1966, he married Mom and spent the next 50 years working hard to provide for her and seven children. Dad never complained about the long hours he worked or the many sleepless nights he endured. Dad loved education and, to better himself, he obtained a long-awaited bachelor’s degree in business at the young age of 50. We were so proud to attend his graduation.

At heart, Dad was a consummate family man, always present, always constant, and always available to lend a helping hand or offer a word of advice and encouragement. Dad was a quiet man, but when he spoke, his words were powerful and meaningful. He had simple pleasures and took the most pleasure in the company of his wife, children, and many grandchildren, whom he doted upon. His love for his family was brilliant and enduring.

Thank you, Dad, for gracing us with your gentle presence and inspiring us with your courage. We will miss you every day of our lives
