Robert Ernest Peterson

Peterson, Robert Ernest 'Bob'
29 Jun 1933 - 13 Sep 2016

Robert Ernest Peterson was born on June 29, 1933 in Fremont, NE to Marvin and Evelyn (Ott) Peterson. He grew up in Fremont where he attended Linden Elementary and graduated from Fremont High School in 1951. As a young boy, Bob was active in the school Drama Club and was considered the “Class Clown”, always acting funny and quick with a joke. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1953, and served his country as a radar repairman, stationed in Baltimore, Maryland, until 1956. Upon his return to Nebraska, Bob attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, and graduated with a Business Degree in 1961.

Robert married Constance Kessler on February 24, 1957 at the First Baptist Church in Fremont, Nebraska. They were blessed with four daughters: Patrice, Barbara, Peggy and Bobbi. Bob and Connie raised their family in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Aberdeen, South Dakota and Lincoln, Nebraska before settling in Omaha in 1961.

Bob worked his entire career for Western Electric in Omaha and retired in 1988. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and spending time at the family cabin near Nickerson. Bob was a member of the Fremont Masonic Lodge, as well as being very active with the Omaha Tangier Shrine. Several weekends were spent playing in The Shriner’s Oriental Band and participating in area parades. Bob’s greatest gift was his ability to command an audience. He was an excellent Master of Ceremonies for many different events. People enjoyed being with him as he shared his large repertoire of jokes and stories. Bob was funny, ambitious, and, quite the extrovert. He was an avid Husker football fan, enjoyed stewed tomatoes (much to his daughters’ dismay) and Connie’s hamburger stew; he loved a strong Kessler and water after work, and dinner out at Anthony’s. When Bob wanted to make a point involving numbers, it was always 47,000 of whatever he was talking about for added effect.

Robert passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Parson’s House in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 15 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Marvin and Evelyn, and siblings: Peter, Marvin Jr., Donald and Marian. Robert is survived by his wife Constance; daughters and sons-in-law: Patrice and Steve Seidel of Omaha, Barbara and Todd Dunker of Waterloo, NE, Peggy and John Warren of Omaha, and Bobbi and Rod Hansen of Fremont; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; brother and sisters-in-law George and Harriet Peterson of Lincoln, and Colleen Peterson of Fremont.
