Nick, Gerald Thomas " Uncle Jerry"

Gerald T. "Uncle Jerry" Nick, 73, of Cedar Bluffs died Monday, April 25,
2011, at Fremont Area Medical Center.
Jerry was born Dec. 13, 1937, in Fremont to William L. and Mary M. (Boyle)
Nick. He grew up in Cedar Bluffs and graduated from Cedar Bluffs High School
in 1955. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from Sept. 13, 1955, to Sept. 12,
1961. After his service, he lived in Michigan and then moved to Chicago in
1966 where he worked for American Airlines and also met his wife Joyce. He
lived in Massachusetts for six months and then moved back to Nebraska in May
1969 where he worked for Western Electric and Lucent Technologies at Omaha.
Jerry married Joyce Greiert on July 29, 1967, in Kewanee, Ill.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at Cedar Bluffs and the
Nebraska Airboat Association.
He is survived by: wife, Joyce; sons, Bill (and wife, Rachel) Nick of
Lincoln and David (and wife, Cynthia) Nick of Paulden, Ariz.; daughter,
Cindy (and husband, David) Burke III of Ferndale, Mich.; brothers, Lynn (and
wife, Wilma) Nick of Brighton, Colo., James Nick of Omaha and Ronald Nick of
Fremont; sisters, Margaret Van Ness of Aurora, Colo., Barbara Wesely of
Fremont and Rita (and husband, Al) Sindelar of Fremont; 12 grandchildren;
and six great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Fred Nick; sisters, Judith
Nick, Catherine "Claire" Kern, Elizabeth Anne Vopalensky and Mary Ellen
Hartmann.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cedar
Bluffs with the Rev. Matthew Vandewalle officiating. Visitation will be from
5-8 p.m. Thursday at the church with a rosary/vigil service at 7 p.m.
Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial
will be in Little Flower of Jesus Cemetery, southeast of Fremont, with
military honors conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post 854 and American Legion Post 20.
