Eugene Clifton Biglow, who was affectionately known as “Bootsie” to his
siblings and “Gene” to his friends, was born on February 3, 1940, in
Paris, Texas. He spent his early childhood in Denver, Colorado and later
relocated to Omaha, Nebraska to live with his father. As a youth Eugene
enjoyed boxing in the light weight division. He graduated from Technical
High School and later attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Eugene had a great work ethic and was employed with AT&T (Western
Electric) for 36 years, until he retired in 2000. He was greatly
respected by all who worked with him.
Eugene was a soft spoken man, but his words carried much weight. He
loved his children, stepchildren, grandchildren and spiritual children.
He always tried to impart to them the importance of being of good
character and used his wisdom to impart many important life’s lessons.
Eugene shared the words he heard from his father with his children: no
matter what problems you might be having, BUSINESS GOES ON; he told his
daughters not to bring a man to meet him if the man didn’t have a job
and his own place, and told his sons their J.O.B. was their best friend.
He loved reading to his children, sharing his personal storytelling,
talking to them whenever possible and participating in the significant
events in their lives.
Eugene learned the truth about the bible and dedicated his life to
Jehovah God on October 5, 1985. It was his practice to ensure that he
participated in the ministry each year on the date of his baptism.
Eugene loved the ministry and it was through working together in the
ministry that he came to know his wife Renee. They were joined in
marriage on July 2, 1988, and faithfully served Jehovah together for 30
years. Eugene stayed close to Jehovah by regularly doing his DBR’s
(Daily Bible Reading) and M&M’s (Meaning Meditation). Even as his health
declined, he tried to remain active in the ministry. Eugene willingly
served the congregation in any assignment he was asked to perform; first
a ministerial servant and later as an elder. Despite his advancing
illness, he drove to Wichita, Kansas in March 2017, to attend the School
for Congregation of Elders. Eugene said attending the school was one of
the greatest highlights of his spiritual life, and he thanked Jehovah
God for giving him the strength to attend. Eugene had complete trust in
Jehovah. He stated throughout his years as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses,
and especially during his illness, that he felt he was in Jehovah’s
hands and he looked forward to living forever in the new world.
During his down time, Eugene enjoyed playing a good chess game, watching
sports, and most of all working in his garden. He loved watching Western
movies. Eugene always wanted to be dressed impeccably and didn’t
consider himself to be properly dressed if his shoes were not shined.
This attitude came from the years he spent in his youth shining shoes at
the Greyhound Bus station and working at the Nebraska Clothing Store. He
enjoyed taking pictures with his family, friends, and of his travels.
Eugene’s calm presence, infectious smile, and “tell it like it is”
attitude will be sorely missed. He was preceded in death by his mother
and step-father Myrtle and Earnest Grimes, his father and step-mother
Will and Louise Biglow and sister Judith Robbins. He leaves to mourn his
death his beloved wife of 30 years, Renee; cherished children: Veronica
(Rodney) Williams of Phoenix, Arizona; Audrey (Dirk) Johnson of
Washington, DC; Tonya (Bryan) Lennox of Mosley, Virginia; Eugene “Geno”
Biglow Jr. of Phoenix, Arizona; Chad Biglow, Theardise (T.K.) Lowman Jr.
and Richetta Lowman of Omaha, Nebraska; brothers Ernie, Anthony, Tommy
and Kevin Grimes of Denver, Colorado; sisters Betty (Alvin) Riddle of
East Chicago, Illinois; Brenda (Horace) Stoker and Sharon Grimes-Ndem of
Denver, Colorado; 26 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and a host of
nieces, nephews, other relatives, extended family and dear friends.
“Grandpa” will be especially missed by special grandson Xavier Lowman.
Eugene C.
Biglow retired from the Omaha Works on 24 Aug 2000, with over 36 years
of service.
